What does flattening do?
Flattening renders each page to an image and rebuilds the PDF from those images. The result has no selectable text, no hyperlinks, no form fields, and no editable elements — it's a visual copy only. This is useful when you want to share a document for reading without allowing it to be modified.
Quality settings
- Standard (1×) — 72 DPI equivalent. Smaller file, fine for most screens
- High (1.5×) — 108 DPI equivalent. Recommended for good readability
- Max (2×) — 144 DPI equivalent. Sharpest output, larger file
Limitations — when to use a desktop tool
This browser-based approach does not add a password that prevents the PDF from being opened — it only removes editability by flattening to images. If you need true AES password encryption, use a desktop tool such as Adobe Acrobat, Preview (macOS), or LibreOffice.
