WebP conversion uses the browser's native image decoder. Transparent WebP areas are filled with white. No uploads — everything is local.

Why WebP exists and when to convert

WebP was developed by Google as a modern image format with superior compression. It produces files 25–35% smaller than JPEG and 26% smaller than PNG at equivalent quality. Despite wide browser support, many apps — including email clients, Microsoft Office, and older graphics software — still can't open WebP. Converting to JPG gives you a universally compatible file.

Choosing the right JPG quality

  • 90–100% — Near-lossless quality. Larger file, best for printing or archiving.
  • 75–89% — Excellent for web use. Visually indistinguishable from the original for most images.
  • 60–74% — Good for thumbnails and previews where file size matters.
  • For web delivery, 80–85% is the industry standard sweet spot.

WebP vs JPG — when to use each

Use WebP for your website's images — it loads faster and improves Core Web Vitals. Use JPG for sharing, email attachments, uploading to platforms, or when the recipient's software may not support WebP. Modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) all support WebP natively.
