Type or paste any title and instantly get a URL-safe slug. Handles accented characters, special symbols, and ampersands. Choose your separator and copy with one click.
What makes a good URL slug?
- Lowercase only — uppercase letters can cause duplicate content issues on case-sensitive servers.
- Words separated by hyphens, not spaces or underscores.
- No special characters, punctuation, or percent-encoding.
- Short and descriptive — ideally under 60 characters so it fits in a browser tab.
- Matches the main keyword of the page for SEO benefit.
Hyphens vs. underscores for SEO
Google has consistently recommended hyphens over underscores since 2009. The search engine treats hyphens as word separators, so best-coffee-shops is indexed as three separate words. Underscores are treated as connectors, so best_coffee_shops is treated as one compound word, which hurts discoverability for individual terms.
When to update existing slugs
Changing a slug on a live page breaks any existing links and resets SEO equity unless you set up a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. Only change slugs when the benefit (better keyword targeting, correcting a typo) clearly outweighs the cost of setting up the redirect and losing any accumulated link juice temporarily.
